Top attractions in Barcelona for kids

The zoo and the Aquarium

If you are travelling with kids and you want to provide them with quality entertainment, a safe bet is to get tickets to Barcelona Zoo or the Aquarium. These two major attractions are perfect for children to spend a few hours in a wonderful environment and be fascinated by the animal kingdom. The zoo is a large green area included in the famous Ciutadella Park, Barcelona’s most famous park after Park Guell (the Gaudi park), and it’s a very recommended visit for nature lovers. In fact, the Barcelona Zoological Garden aims to care the animals it hosts with lots of attention, respecting their living habitat and helping to preserve some species that are bordering extinction.

Same thing for the Barcelona Aquarium, Europe biggest sea attraction, a must-see of Barcelona. The Aquarium is a special place built for the 1992 Olympics, right in the middle of the Port of Barcelona, with the aim to provide a great visiting experience. The star of the Barcelona sea museum is, of course, the shark section, to which you can accede through a fantastic glass tunnel. And there of course thousands of species of fishes that can be admired on all sorts of natural, spectacular environment reproductions, with lots of educational and entertaining settings for children and adults alike.

Amusement parks

For strong emotions lovers there’s nothing better than sheer attractions like the amusement parks. Barcelona offers three fantastic options:

Tibidabo Amusement Park

This awesome amusement park is located on the top of the Collserola hill that overlooks Barcelona, and it’s one of the city most beautiful spots, since it allows to enjoy the best and largest panoramic views, not only over Barcelona, but also of the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees, the Montserrat Mountain. The Tibidabo Amusement Park is a great all-day attraction just half an hour away from the center of Barcelona, easily accessible by bus, and also by funicular! Independent spirits can also reach the top of the hill by Vespa, where a few kilometers of uphill and winding roads awaits you with a great slice of view after every curve.

Portaventura theme park

Portaventura, Southern Europe biggest amusement park, in the beautiful coastal town of Salou. We are talking about one the best spots to enjoy state-of-the-art fun machines and attractions, like the Furious Baco, The Shambhala or the Huracan Condor. More than forty jaw-dropping attractions await for you in this huge theme park located just one hour and a half away from Barcelona. We provide a ticket that includes return bus ride from central Barcelona and the admission ticket to the Portaventura amusement park.

Barcelona Open Camp

Good news for sports lovers in general too. Barcelona has recently opened Europe’s first theme park dedicated to sports, the Open Camp. Located in the historical 1992 Olympic Games site up on the hill of Montjuic, the Barcelona Open Camp offers a large area dedicated to sport entertainment and simulations. You’ll be able for example to race with your friends in the same circuits used by the champions in the Olympics, practice all the Olympic sports in the original environment or engage in fantastic simulators, like the Moto GP racing.

The best attractions in Montjuic hill

Montjuic is a place where you want to spend the whole day, and one of the best attractions in this area is certainly the Poble Espanyol, or Spanish village. This is a very peculiar theme park, since it was built no less than in the 1930’s, during the Universal Exhibition. The purpose of this walled “artificial” village was to showcase the best architecture of the whole country, through faithful replicas of Spain’s most outstanding and characteristic buildings. Nowadays the Poble Espanyol is a “living thing”, a real city in the city where not only you can admire a beautiful, gardened work of “fantasy architecture” but also you can enjoy some artisans workshop making, glass, leather goods, clothes and more, do some quality shopping and enjoy super typical restaurants, some of them with flamenco show included.

Climbing to the Olympic Stadium of Montjuic using the cable car

You can climb up to the Olympic Stadium of Montjuic using conventional transportation or on foot, but we suggest two ways that are more fun: the cable car, which not only will bring you to the Olympic areas but also will transport you to the top, where the Montjuic Castle is located.

Breathtaking views “flying” over the trees of the Montjuic park are included in the ticket! The other one is the Bus Turistic, the famous Barcelona Hop on Hop off double-decker bus, which of course includes several stops in this wonderful environment.
