Park Güell, Sagrada Familia, Gothic Tour and National Art Museum of Catalunya in one ticket! Enjoy four top things to see in Barcelona in one day.
The City Tour of Barcelona is the perfect option for those of you who don’t have much time to visit this thriving city known for its art and architecture. Make the most of your trip by getting to know some of the most emblematic places in Barcelona with an expert guide. Make sure to wear your walking shoes!
Get an early start at Park Güell, starting the day with amazing views of the waking city and Mediterranean Sea. This iconic park is a fusion of art, architecture and green space designed by the master architect Antoni Gaudí himself. Take advantage of this photo opportunity and snap a picture of your family or friends with the famous multicolored mosaic salamander that greets you as you enter this fairytale setting. Wander between the palm tree-shaped pillars in the hypostyle room, originally meant to be an open-air market. Breathe in the fresh air as you stand in the Nature Square, a fabulous esplanade at the top of Carmel Hill.
Next on the list is the Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família. Its skinny spires beckon as you approach this astonishing modernist Roman Catholic Church, without a doubt Gaudí’s greatest accomplishment. Nothing compares to this world-renowned temple, with its ornate facades rich in symbolism and its innovative architecture. Still an active place of worship, the church was consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010 and is just one of the seven projects designed by Gaudí to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1984). And when you see the lines already snaking around this essential Gaudí masterpiece, you’ll be glad you have skip-the-line tickets.
Now that you’ve seen two of the most important monuments in Barcelona, enjoy taking a stroll through the Gothic neighborhood and getting to know a more personal side of the city. Have fun learning about its history as your guide shows you pieces of the Roman walls that once surrounded the heart of the city. Right next door you might find a residential building, colorful laundry swaying gently in the breeze, or a trendy fashion boutique that might have that perfect gift you’ve been looking for. This could be a good time to take a quick break at one of the many cafes, because we’ve still got one more stop to make!
The National Museum of Catalan Art (MNAC) majestically awaits you from atop the Montjuïc Hill. The palace, inspired by the Renaissance, is home to one thousand years of art, spanning from medieval to modern times. With over 260,000 pieces of art, the museum proudly displays an important Modernist collection along with scores of drawings, prints and posters and a formidable coin collection. The museum’s highlight, however, is the Romanesque mural paintings that were rescued from long-forgotten churches lost in the Pyrenee mountains.
The perfect finale for this memorable experience is another chance to soak up another spectacular view from the lush gardens of Montjuïc Hill. Look back over how far you came and feel satisfied knowing that, so far, this has been a trip well spent. Now maybe you want to go soak your tired feet in the Mediterranean Sea!
